[Author Note] The Flux

The newest chapter has been completed. This tale was quite the journey for me. It was inspired by my wife who had the idea for the core message. I took on the task of creating the narrative to deliver it. She was delighted by the final version, as was I.

This tale belongs in two spaces, so it can be confusing. Anlov Record is a shared narrative universe, with all tales taking place within the geographic dimensions of the known Spheres of the Ultraverse. The Dreams series are tales unconnected to the Anlov Record. They can share themes, concepts, or even language, but in no way is the Dreams series a component of this shared narrative universe. They can be interpreted as tales, as legends, and perhaps dreams.

I suppose you can say they are not canon to the story, but I find that people can dismiss things defined as such. I suppose I will refuse that language of it being canon or not.

The story, despite being part of the Dreams series, would be included in Book 2 of the [Mad For It] series. All other chapters of [Mad For It] are intended to be firmly within the narrative universe of Anlov Record. The Flux will be an anomaly and be included in a Book collection because it is how much I love the story. There are many reasons, but I think one of the two biggest reasons is that, being a product of inspiration from my wife, I want it to get special treatment. The other reason is that there is a thematic message within that will be a shared theme of another chapter within Book 2 of [Mad For It], and perhaps even a theme going forward.

I hope you enjoy this Dream.

For some behind-the-scenes trivia, there was a particular inspiration for a specific scene of death in the story. There was a tragic death of a woman named Anna Uskova in 2022. It was such a terrifying way to die that it haunts me still. As I watched her disappear into that darkness, I felt my entire skeleton seize. You the viewer, like me, will know the exact instant she was gone forever. As I thought it over, replaying what I saw in my memory, I asked myself if that is what being sucked into space would feel like. Is that what it would look like? I can only presume so on both counts. Watch the clip if you are brave enough. But know that it will stay etched in you for a long time.
